Castles were once intended for occasional or permanent stay (holiday and entertainment) of richer and richer social layers. These magnificent buildings were built in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, reflecting the brilliance and power of those times and their owners. Most were built after the departure of the Turks from these parts and since the Austro-Hungarian monarchy occupied the territory north of the Sava and the Danube in the late 18th and 19th centuries.

At that time, a civilian stock and small nobility are emerging, and thus large spahic estates on which nothing big these buildings. People quickly took the step of living in the monarchy, sent children to schools, wealthier citizens gained noble titles and prestige and began to live just like the Austrian nobility – which meant that they had houses similar to theirs. Over seventy castles are located in Vojvodina, some of them declared to be cultural property, and some have been turned into hotels.

We begin our journey through time by gathering the group at 9h at the agreed place and departure towards Sremski Karlovci. After traveling about an hour, we arrive in a small town near Fruska Gora – Sremska Karlovacka. The Palace of the Patriarchate – a monumental building is located in the center of Karlovci, the seat of the bishop of Srem and one of the most beautiful courtiers in the country. The building of the court was built between 1892 and 1895 according to the project of our architect Vladimir Nikolic, at the place where once used to be “Pasha konak”. “Pasha Konak” was the first residence of the chiefs of the Serbian church after the transfer of the archbishopric from Peja to Sremski Karlovci. The chapel was painted by Uros Predic. The patriarchal palace is not only the administrative headquarters of the Serbian Orthodox Church, but also the treasury in which the valuables, art material, icons, portraits of the most important church generals, various items of applied arts and rare and valuable manuscripts and old printed books are stored. Today the building is a permanent residence of the bishop of Srem and summer residence of the Serbian patriarch, and the museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The building and park are perfectly maintained. The Palace is a cultural monument of exceptional importance .
After the sightseeing we continue to Bački Petrovac and the Kulpin castle. The complex of two castles was built for the family Stratimirovic, who was the owner of 120 years. At the beginning of the 20th century it was purchased by Lazar Dunđerski, who contributed to the development of Kulpin. A smaller castle was built at the end of the 18th century, and in the greater part of the 19th century. The family of Dungeurs retained possession until nationalization in 1945. Today in the big castle is the Agricultural Museum, with some family members Stratimirović and Dunđerski, while the small castle has turned offices of citizens’ culinary associations. After a free time we take the Becec route. After traveling about 1:30 pm, we arrive at the most beautiful courtyard complex of the Vojvodina region and certainly Serbia as well – Castle Fantast. The castle was built in 1925 by the name of the French castle of that time. The castle architecture is very interesting, it is intertwined with baroque, romantic and neoclassical style. The castle consists of four angular towers, two circular and two swing towers, as well as a tower – a style of neo-gothic. The gala hall and both entrances are in non-classical style. The interior of the castle was also impressive, authentic stylish luxurious furniture, carpets, crystal chandeliers decorated the interior of the castle. Unfortunately, after the liberation in 1945, all the wealth disappeared from the castle … In the castle, sheep were released, so the floor and part of the wall were completely destroyed. Today, the only authentic thing left behind is the door and walls. Since 1983, this complex has been converted into a luxury hotel. In addition to the rooms located in the castle towers, there are two festive rooms in the castle, bigger for 70 and smaller for 30 people, also there is a festive salon with stylish furniture and Bogdan Dunđerski’s salon. The Chapel of St. George was built at the same time as the castle itself, in a non-Avant-garde style. Bogdan Dunđerski decided to lift it directly in the vicinity of the castle because he came to the knowledge that the church was once in that place. Uros Predic was a great friend of the Dungeons, so he was also entrusted with painting the chapel. Bogdan had only one condition, and it was that the Virgin received the character of his great love – Mare.

We continue our journey to Zrenjanin and Castle Kaštel. At 7km from Zrenjanin, in the village of Ečka there is a castle Kastel built in English style, from 1816 to 1820. The castle was erected by the Lazar family, and at the ceremonial opening of the castle on August 29, 1820, the famous Franc List played. Today this old building has been completely renovated and turned into an object that will provide its guests with an unforgettable holiday in an authentic ambience inspired by the aristocratic past. The castle has 38 rooms and 7 suites, which are a mixture of modern and medieval design, giving guests an intimate atmosphere, peace and a glimpse of the magnificent park surrounding the entire building. Continue to Vrsac. In Vrsac, we stop to visit the famous Vladičanski dvor. The yard was built in 1762 at the time of bishop Jovan Georgievich. The bishop received the building permit from Empress Maria Theresa, and it is envisaged that this will be the residence of the Banat bishops, as it is to this day. His exceptional value is a chapel dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gavrilo from the 18th century, with an extraordinary Baroque iconostasis. The entire government residence is also a kind of exhibition of rare and valuable works of art from the 18th and 19th centuries. The garden furniture is representative piece and furniture. Mostly in the spirit of Baroque and Biedermeier style, this furniture is in perfect harmony with the interior. The Dvorna biblioteka has several thousand books and is a kind of museum.
