National Museum Belgrade on Republic Square

The National Museum Belgrade is located on Republic Square, in the center of the city. It is the oldest museum in Serbia, founded in 1844, and moved into its current building in 1952.

The building was renovated in 2018 and now presents collections that cover Serbian and world history, archaeology, art and culture.

What to see inside

The museum collection includes old and rare manuscripts, applied art, numismatics, archaeological objects, historical objects and important works of art. One of the best-known exhibits is Miroslav’s Gospel, dating from the 12th century.

The permanent exhibition covers periods from the Paleolithic to 20th-century art. Visitors can also see works by Serbian artists such as Djura Jaksic, Paja Jovanovic and Uros Predic, as well as works by international artists listed in the museum collection.
